February’s Famous Four

heart-knife-february-famous-four-knives-knife-pointFebruary is the month of love, so we thought why not share with you the four blades we love the most, here at Knife Point, and the reasons why.  So here goes…

Swann Morton Scalpel Blades

These can be sterile or non sterile but either way, they are made out of carbon steel.  The non sterile blades come in blister packs of 5, packs of 100 and the sterile blades also come in packs of 100 but are individually sealed, hence their sterility!  For use with either, you may also wish to consider purchasing a Swann Morton blade remover unit which are available in packs of two, five or ten and hold up to 100 blades each.  Both of these items are commonly used in the medical or dental industry as they are highly reliable scalpels which make very fine incisions, perfect for detailed surgery or oral work.

Stanley Knife Fat Max

An extra heavy duty straight blade which fit all types of Stanley, Stanley Fat Max, Dolphin, Allegro, Shark and other hand tool types.  We love this blade type due to its versatility.  It’s incredibly sharp so can cut easily through a large variety of materials with the blade lasting a much longer time than an average knife.  This means that there is less down time so it earns you more money, especially as it is snap resistant.  The Stanley Fat Max is a good value knife which is highly valued by all tradesmen and is of course made by the world famous company, Stanley, whose reputation precedes them.

Planer Blades

Planer blades have made our top list because they will fit AEG, Black & Decker, Bosch, Festo, Haffner, Holzher, Kress, Mafell, Metabo and Scheer & Skil planers – what we mean is, you can buy one set of planer blades and they will work with any of these makes of planer!  This saves you money, rather than having to buy lots of different blades for lots of different tools!  They are made out of fine grain tungsten carbide and have an incredibly high quality, shiny finish, which is often described as a ‘mirror’ giving these blades the sharpest and keenest edge around!

Snap-Off Knives

Another innovative design from Stanley, where practicality meets safety!  These knives have blades which are created out of die-cast metal making them incredibly strong yet still light. Stanley have created this knife with a retractable handle so that the blades snap-off if there is an issue so as not to damage the knife or indeed the user!  These knives are easy to use, making DIY open to anyone, with their finger screwing operative locking mechanism and strong wedge type lock which holds the blade securely in its wanted position.  With Snap-Off Knives, it’s definitely safety first!

The Versatility of the Stanley Knife

cupcakes-knife-stanley-knife-blades-knife-pointDads are special people – they look after, care for and provide for you.  So why not show them just how much they mean to you and how grateful you are during 2016?  All you need is a Stanley Knife, some of our crafty ideas and the rest of the artistic flare is completely up to you.

Cut out Banners and Cards with a Stanley Knife

A great alternative for the standard shop bought Birthday, Fathers Day, Valetines, or thank you cards for any man in your life – why not make your own personalised card or even banner!  They are simple, quick and cheap to make and you can have loads of fun getting the kids involved, too.  Just find some colour card or pictures, stencil the letter shapes you need, like “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!” and cut them out using a Stanley Knife on an appropriate protective mat and be careful of your fingers.  Then either attach them on to a card with glue or on to a piece of string, ribbon or paper bunting depending on whether you want to make a card or banner and the job is done!

Printable “Love Dad” Labels for Stanley Knives

Create label lookalike vouchers on the computer which are unique coupons entitling Dad, Husband, Grandad, Boyfriend etc to things which are special or sacred to them.  Great for the children on a rainy day, they can create their own vouchers, print them on to card and then cut them out using Stanley Knives or scissors under supervision.  Examples of vouchers can be “ You are entitled to: 1 nap in peace”, “A concert by your Grandchildren”, “Help in the Garden on Sunday”, “You are solely in charge of the remote control on Saturday night”.

Sun-ny Day Cut Out Stanley Knife Project

All you need for this is a sunny day, thick cardboard big enough to make a sign and the trusty Stanley Knife…oh and a camera and probably someone extra to help you take a photo.  Cut out your short message with your Stanley Knife out of the thick cardboard eg “I LOVE JOHN”, make sure you are holding the sign upside down and stand in a sunny, flat spot.  The sun will shine through your message on your cardboard and your shadows will make it obvious it’s you, without all of your features being apparent in detail.  Get someone to take a picture of your shadows and your message.  This is not only lovely but also a great memory of how little (and sweet) your children were at certain ages, or special places – memories and moments are captured in these cut out photos.

Stanley Knives and Baking

Does the man in your life love a good slice of cake or a bun with his cup of tea?  Why not make some buns and make some flags with unique messages written on them?  They can be nice, they can be funny, they can be flirty, they can be…anything!  Cut the card out in a double flag shape with your Stanley Knife, wrap it around a cocktail stick with a bit of glue, leave them to dry and then write your message.  Then having made your little cupcakes, chocolate chip muffins or blueberry buns (whatever their favourite is) you can add an appropriately messaged flag and give it to your favourite man with his cup of time.  This is the perfect way of always getting what you want…!

The World Famous Stanley Knife

Fat Max Stanley Knife Blade

Fat Max Stanley Knife Blade

If you are anything like us, we like to know the history behind our products and this time we are writing about the Stanley Knife.

The brand, Stanley, became known in the 19th century, when the first of Frederick Stanley’s shops were opened in Connecticut, 1834.  Initially, the Stanley Knife was aimed at professional tradesmen but has become popular over the years with DIY fanatics, too.  Frederick Stanley’s aim was not to sell as many knives as possible but to sell knives to customers that would last them, well, forever, and at the same time this gave him feedback and ideas to create new ideas for different and more useful tools for his customers.  Interestingly, Stanley later merged with another company to pioneer power tools, which is a name known in every house hold today, Black and Decker.

The Stanley Knife

Thought to be the most famous of the Stanley tools range, is the Stanley Knife, which is now a standard, every day piece of equipment for any professional or home DIY fan.  It transformed the way virtually any material was cut because it could cut any material.

Stanley Knife Blades
